Consett's Wednesday AA meeting takes place at 7.30pm in the St Johns Ambulance Hall on John Street and lasts an hour. This is a closed meeting: in AA terms that means it is for people who have a desire to stop drinking, rather than a general audience, so newcomers wanting help for themselves are exactly who it exists for. The hall is wheelchair accessible. A chit system is in place, meaning a member can sign an attendance slip if you need evidence of attendance for court, probation or a treatment provider. Meetings are free and there is no need to book or register in advance; arriving a few minutes before 7.30pm is all it takes, and you can simply listen if you prefer.
