The Blackburn Sunday group meets at 7.30pm at Sacred Heart Church on Preston New Road, at the corner of Billinge Avenue on the town's west side. It is a closed Alcoholics Anonymous meeting — for anyone with a desire to stop drinking, or anyone worried about their drinking — and it runs for an hour and a half. Sunday night meetings hold a particular place in recovery: they close out the weekend, settle the head before Monday, and catch the people for whom weekends are the war zone. This one has been doing exactly that for the west of Blackburn, in one of the town's landmark churches.
