Getting there
About this meeting
There is a weekly Al-Anon Family Groups meeting in Soho, central London, taking place on Tuesdays at 6pm at Soho Recovery Centre, 123 Charing Cross Road. The group is for people whose lives have been shaped by someone else's drinking, drawing partners, parents, adult children and friends together to share their own experience. This is an open meeting, so anyone with a connection to the situation, including newcomers still deciding whether Al-Anon is for them, is welcome to attend. The meeting runs for around an hour. Nothing needs to be arranged in advance and there is no cost, so newcomers can simply come along on the Tuesday.
Common questions
Can anyone attend this meeting?
Al-Anon exists for people touched by someone else's drinking, whatever the relationship, whether a partner, parent, adult child or friend. The drinker themselves is not the member. This meeting is open, so newcomers and long-standing members attend the same session.
Can I attend without the relative or friend who drinks?
No, not at all. Al-Anon is about your own experience and wellbeing, so attending alone is normal and expected. The relative or friend concerned is not required to be there, or even aware of it.
Is there a cost, or do I need to book a place?
No cost and no registration are involved. Arrive for 6pm on Tuesday, and you are free to leave whenever you need to as well. The meeting lasts around an hour.
