Recess holds its Alcoholics Anonymous meeting every Tuesday at 8.30pm in the Old National School, part of the Ionad Phobail community building in the village. It is a closed meeting, kept for people who have a desire to stop drinking rather than open to the wider public. Recess is a small settlement deep in Connemara, so this meeting offers a rare local option for people living in that part of Co. Galway. There is no cost to attend and no need to book a place beforehand. Wheelchair access at the Old National School has not been confirmed, so anyone with mobility needs should check with the group ahead of time.
