About this meeting

Portishead's Al-Anon Family Groups meeting is held online every Wednesday at 7.45pm, UK and Ireland time, running for about an hour and a half. Al-Anon Family Groups welcomes anyone touched by someone else's drinking, regardless of whether that person is still drinking, in recovery, or no longer around. Members share their own experience of coping and recovering from the effects of another person's drinking, using the fellowship's literature and twelve steps as a guide rather than a script. It is an open meeting, so anyone affected is welcome, together with anyone wanting to understand more or support a friend or family member. There's no need to have attended before, and no obligation to speak; listening in is entirely normal at first.

Common questions

Do I need to bring the person whose drinking worries me?

Not at all. You can come entirely on your own account, whether or not the person is in recovery, still drinking, or no longer part of your life.

Is there anything to pay before joining?

There's no fee and nothing to sign up for. The link and any access details are on Al-Anon Family Groups' own meeting page.

Do I have to keep my camera on for the whole session?

No. Many newcomers prefer to listen for a while before switching it on, and that's absolutely fine.

Going to your first meeting?

Walking into a room for the first time is the hardest step. Foundations, our plain-language introduction to recovery, was written for exactly this moment — what to expect, what the Steps mean, and how to begin.
