Al-Anon Family Groups is for anyone whose life is, or has been, affected by someone else's drinking, whether that is a partner, a parent, an adult child, a sibling or a friend. Being an open meeting, it welcomes anyone affected by someone else's drinking, including people coming along for the first time. It lasts around an hour and a half. Nothing needs to be arranged in advance and there is no cost, so newcomers can simply come along on the Thursday.
Who is Al-Anon actually for?
Al-Anon Family Groups is for people whose lives are, or have been, affected by someone else's drinking, not for the person who drinks. Members include partners, parents, adult children, other relatives and friends. This particular meeting is open, so anyone in that situation, including newcomers, is welcome to sit in.
Do I have to bring the person whose drinking has affected me?
No, not at all. Al-Anon is about your own experience and wellbeing, so attending alone is normal and expected. The relative or friend concerned is not required to be there, or even aware of it.
How do I join, and is there a fee?
There is no charge and no need to book. Just come along on Thursday for the 7.30pm start; you can simply take a seat when you arrive. The meeting lasts around an hour and a half.
