Penarth Methodist Church, Woodland Place in Penarth, Glamorgan hosts the Penarth Al-Anon meeting every Thursday, starting at 8pm and lasting about an hour. Al-Anon Family Groups exist for people affected by someone else's drinking, whether that is a partner, parent, adult child or friend. The meeting is open, meaning newcomers, visitors and anyone curious about Al-Anon can attend alongside regular members. Newcomers are not expected to say anything at their first meeting, and many people attend for some time simply to listen before they join in. Al-Anon groups follow the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous, and meetings are self-supporting through voluntary contributions from members.
