About this meeting

Melrose's Wednesday night Al-Anon meeting is held online at 7pm, UK and Ireland time, and runs a little longer than most groups, at around two hours. It's a fellowship for family and friends coping with someone else's drinking, built entirely around the experience of the people who live alongside it. The extra time gives members more space to share in depth, drawing on Al-Anon's literature and the twelve steps rather than following a fixed script. It is an open meeting, so anyone whose life has been affected by another person's drinking is welcome, together with anyone wanting to learn more or support someone else through it. There is no need to have attended before, and nobody is required to speak; you are free to simply listen for as long as you need.

Common questions

Does the person whose drinking concerns me need to come along too?

No. Al-Anon is for you, in your own right. Many members attend on their own and never alongside the person whose drinking concerns them.

Is there a charge, and where are the joining instructions?

It's free to attend and there's nothing to book. Joining details are on Al-Anon Family Groups' own meeting page.

Is this meeting longer than a typical Al-Anon session?

Yes, it runs for about two hours rather than the more usual hour to ninety minutes, giving extra time for sharing.
