Margate Chair

Margate Chair is the town's Friday night AA meeting, held at St Johns Community Centre on Victoria Road from 7.30pm for a full hour and a half. In a chair meeting, an invited member tells their story from the front, sharing what their drinking was like and how they recovered, before the meeting opens out. It is an open meeting, so anyone may attend: people with a desire to stop drinking, family members, friends and professionals. Hearing someone's whole story can be a powerful first taste of AA, which makes this format a good starting point. The centre is wheelchair accessible, and the meeting is free with no booking needed.
