This group meets weekly in Maidstone, Kent, gathering people for anyone whose life is or has been affected by someone else's drinking. Meetings take place at The Vine on Northumberland Road on Thursdays at 8pm and running for roughly an hour and a half. It is an open meeting, so anyone is welcome to come along, not just those who already consider themselves Al-Anon members, and it welcomes both long-standing members and people considering Al-Anon for the very first time. Members focus on their own recovery from the effects of someone else's drinking, rather than on the drinker.
Does the relative or friend I'm concerned about need to come with me?
No, the meeting is for whoever has been affected, not the person who drinks. Plenty of members come alone and their relative or friend never attends at all. You do not need their knowledge or agreement to go.
Do I need to book a place, and is it free?
Al-Anon meetings are free, and there is no booking system. You can just turn up on the day, a little before the start time.
