About this meeting

Kings Heath's Al-Anon Family Groups meeting meets online every Monday at 7.30pm, UK and Ireland time, for about an hour and a half. It's a fellowship for family and friends coping with someone else's drinking, built entirely around the experience of the people who live alongside it. Members gather to share what has helped them, drawing on Al-Anon's own literature and the twelve steps rather than a set format. It is an open meeting, so anyone whose life has been affected by another person's drinking is welcome, as well as anyone wanting to understand more or support a friend or family member. There is no requirement to have attended before, and no pressure to speak in your first few meetings.

Common questions

Do I have to bring the person whose drinking is a worry?

No. Al-Anon is for you, in your own right. Many members attend on their own and never alongside the person whose drinking concerns them.

Is it free, and how do I join?

It's free to attend and there's nothing to book. Joining details are on Al-Anon Family Groups' own meeting page.

Do I need my camera on to attend?

No. You're welcome to keep your camera off, especially the first few times — plenty of people listen in before they feel ready to be seen.

Walking into a room for the first time is the hardest step. Foundations, our plain-language introduction to recovery, was written for exactly this moment — what to expect, what the Steps mean, and how to begin.
