About this meeting

Hungerford's Al-Anon Family Groups meeting runs online every Monday at 7.15pm, UK and Ireland time, for about an hour and a half. The fellowship is for relatives and friends of people whose drinking has affected them, not for the person who drinks themselves. In the meeting, members talk through their own experience of living alongside someone else's drinking and what has helped, using Al-Anon's literature and the twelve steps rather than any fixed agenda. It is an open meeting, so it is not limited to existing Al-Anon members; anyone whose life has been touched by another person's drinking is welcome, as are those simply wanting to understand more. There is no pressure to talk, and many newcomers spend their first few sessions listening.

Common questions

Does the person whose drinking worries me need to be there too?

No. Whoever's drinking has affected you doesn't need to know you're going, let alone attend themselves.

Is it free to attend, and how do I join?

It costs nothing to attend, and you don't need to register. Head to Al-Anon Family Groups' meeting page for how to join.

Do I have to keep my camera on throughout?

There's no expectation either way — some members have their camera on, others don't, and newcomers are welcome to just listen at the start.
