The Glasgow South Wednesday Group is an Overeaters Anonymous meeting held at Cathcart Baptist Church on Merrylee Road in the city's south side. It runs every Wednesday from 7pm and follows a speaker format, where a member shares their experience of recovery from compulsive eating before the group opens up. OA welcomes anyone with a desire to stop eating compulsively, and this is an open meeting, so family, friends and anyone curious about the fellowship are also free to come along. You don't need to have been to a meeting before, and there's no pressure to speak on your first visit. The venue sits at postcode G43 2RA. If you'd like to check anything beforehand, Wendy is the local contact for this group.
Can I come to this meeting if I've never been to OA before?
Yes. This is an open meeting, so anyone is welcome, including newcomers, family, friends and professionals. Overeaters Anonymous is for anyone with a desire to stop eating compulsively, and you're free to simply listen at your first meeting if you prefer.
Do I need to book, and is there a cost?
No booking is needed and there is no charge to attend. Just turn up at Cathcart Baptist Church for 7pm on Wednesday. OA has no dues or fees; groups pass a voluntary collection to cover costs like room hire, but you're never required to give anything.
What happens in a speaker meeting?
A member shares their own story of recovery through OA for part of the meeting, which can help newcomers see how the programme works in practice. Afterwards there's usually time for others to share too, though there's no obligation to say anything.
