Getting there
About this meeting
Weekly on Wednesdays at 11am, Cathcart, Glasgow welcomes an Al-Anon Family Groups meeting at Cathcart Baptist Church, 96 Merrylee Road. The fellowship exists for people affected by someone else's drinking rather than for the person who drinks, and its members include partners, parents, adult children and friends of someone whose drinking has caused them concern. It is held as an open meeting, meaning anyone who thinks Al-Anon might help them is free to come along. The meeting itself lasts around an hour and a half. You do not need to register or pay anything; the meeting simply starts at 11am and anyone is free to be there.
Common questions
Is this meeting only for family members of someone who drinks?
It is for family members and friends affected by another person's drinking, rather than for the drinker. That covers partners, parents, grown-up children and close friends. Because this is an open meeting, anyone with a connection to the situation can come along, including on a first visit.
Do I have to bring the person whose drinking has affected me?
No, not at all. Al-Anon is about your own experience and wellbeing, so attending alone is normal and expected. The relative or friend concerned is not required to be there, or even aware of it.
Do I need to book in advance, and does it cost anything?
There is no charge and no need to book. Just come along on Wednesday for the 11am start; you can simply take a seat when you arrive. The meeting lasts around an hour and a half.
