The Glasgow East Friday Group meets each week at St Anthony Church on Mar Gardens in Rutherglen, on the southeast edge of Glasgow. Overeaters Anonymous is a fellowship for anyone with a desire to stop eating compulsively, and this meeting starts at 7pm every Friday. It follows a literature format, so members read from OA and shared recovery texts together, then discuss how the ideas apply to daily life. Meetings run in English. As an open meeting, it welcomes newcomers as well as family, friends and anyone curious about the programme. There are no fees and nothing to arrange in advance. If you would like to check details before coming along, the group has a local contact and the Alba Intergroup can also help.
Who can come to this meeting?
This is an open Overeaters Anonymous meeting, so anyone is welcome, including people who think they may eat compulsively, family members, friends and interested professionals. The only requirement for OA membership is a desire to stop eating compulsively.
Do I need to book or pay?
No. OA meetings are always free to attend and there is no booking. Just turn up on Friday shortly before 7pm. A voluntary contribution may be passed round to cover costs, but you are never obliged to give anything.
What happens in a literature meeting?
Members read from OA-approved literature and shared recovery texts, then talk about how the passages relate to their own experience. It is a relaxed way to learn about the programme, and newcomers can simply listen if they prefer.
