Getting there
About this meeting
Dundee's Al-Anon group meets online every Thursday at 7pm, UK and Ireland time, for around an hour. Al-Anon exists for people affected by someone else's drinking, whoever that person is and whatever stage things are at — still drinking, in recovery, or no longer part of your life. The meeting brings together people with similar experiences to talk through what has helped them, drawing on Al-Anon's own literature and the twelve steps rather than following a set script. It is an open meeting, so it welcomes anyone whose life has been touched by another person's drinking, as well as those simply wanting to learn more or support somebody else. There is no requirement to have attended before, and newcomers are never pushed to speak; listening quietly is a perfectly normal way to start.
Common questions
Do I need to bring along the person whose drinking concerns me?
No, not at all. The meeting is for you — plenty of people come by themselves and the person they're worried about never attends.
What does it cost, and how do I get the joining details?
There's no cost and no need to book in advance. You'll find the joining details on Al-Anon Family Groups' own meeting page.
Is a camera required to take part?
No. You're welcome to keep your camera off, especially the first few times — plenty of people listen in before they feel ready to be seen.

Going to your first meeting?
Walking into a room for the first time is the hardest step. Foundations, our plain-language introduction to recovery, was written for exactly this moment — what to expect, what the Steps mean, and how to begin.
