Getting there
About this meeting
Basingstoke's Al-Anon group meets online every Monday at 7.30pm, UK and Ireland time, and lasts about an hour. The fellowship is for relatives and friends of people whose drinking has affected them, not for the person who drinks themselves. Members share their own experience of living with another person's drinking and what has helped them cope, using Al-Anon's literature and the twelve steps as a starting point rather than a script. It is an open meeting, so anyone whose life has been touched by someone else's drinking is welcome, along with those wanting to understand more or support a friend or relative. There's no requirement to have attended before, and no pressure to share straight away.
Common questions
Do I have to bring the person whose drinking is affecting me?
You don't need to. This is a meeting for the people affected, not the person drinking, and most attend without them.
Is there a charge, and how do I get the joining details?
No charge and no booking required. Al-Anon Family Groups' own meeting page has the details you need to join.
Is a camera required to take part?
Not unless you want to. It's common for newcomers to join with their camera off and simply listen at first.

Going to your first meeting?
Walking into a room for the first time is the hardest step. Foundations, our plain-language introduction to recovery, was written for exactly this moment — what to expect, what the Steps mean, and how to begin.
