About this meeting

St Mark's Church, Buccleuch Street (use the hall-side door) in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria is home to a weekly Al-Anon Family Groups meeting, held on Wednesdays at 6pm. Al-Anon Family Groups is for anyone whose life is, or has been, affected by someone else's drinking, whether that is a partner, a parent, an adult child, a sibling or a friend. It is held as an open meeting, meaning anyone who thinks Al-Anon might help them is free to come along. The meeting itself lasts around an hour and a half. You do not need to register or pay anything; the meeting simply starts at 6pm and anyone is free to be there.

Common questions

Who is this meeting for?

Al-Anon exists for people touched by someone else's drinking, whatever the relationship, whether a partner, parent, adult child or friend. The drinker themselves is not the member. This meeting is open, so newcomers and long-standing members attend the same session.

Can I attend without the relative or friend who drinks?

No. The meeting is for you, in your own right, and many people attend entirely on their own. The person whose drinking has affected you never needs to come along, and does not even need to know you are going.

Is there a cost, or do I need to book a place?

No cost and no registration are involved. Arrive for 6pm on Wednesday, and you are free to leave whenever you need to as well. The meeting lasts around an hour and a half.
