Alternate step reading from basic text one week, share the next
The 12 Steps 1 Promise meeting brings Narcotics Anonymous together every Thursday evening at The Quaker House on Fonnereau Road in Ipswich. Running from 6pm for an hour, it gives you a steady midweek point to check in with others who understand what it means to want to stop using drugs. The format alternates week to week: one Thursday the group works through a step reading from the Basic Text, the next is given over to sharing, and speaker meetings feature too. Being an open meeting, it welcomes anyone with a desire to stop using, along with family members, friends and interested professionals. If you are new to NA, arriving a few minutes early makes it easier to settle in and find a seat before things start.
Who can come to this meeting?
This is an open Narcotics Anonymous meeting, so anyone is welcome — people who want to stop using drugs, and also family, friends and professionals who would like to understand more about NA and how it works.
Do I need to book or pay anything?
No. There is no booking and no charge to attend. NA meetings are free; a basket is passed for voluntary contributions to cover room hire and refreshments, but you never have to give anything, especially on your first visit.
What happens during the meeting?
The format changes weekly. One Thursday the group reads and discusses a step from the Basic Text, and the following week is set aside for members to share their experience. Speaker sessions also form part of the programme.
