Before you go
Two meetings at the same time, on the same day at the same place in the same group.
About this meeting
Two Alcoholics Anonymous meetings run side by side at St Thomas of Canterbury Church on Woodford Green's High Road every Friday at 8pm: West Essex Newcomers, geared towards people in their first days and weeks of sobriety, and the West Essex Active Service Crew, which holds workshops on AA's Traditions and Concepts. Both belong to the same group and share the same venue and start time, so you can simply choose the room that fits where you are. Each lasts an hour and a half. These are open meetings, so family, friends and professionals are welcome alongside anyone with a desire to stop drinking. The church is wheelchair accessible, and attendance slips can be signed for court, probation or treatment services.
Common questions
Who can attend the West Essex Newcomers meeting?
Both Friday meetings are open, so anyone may attend, including people who want to stop drinking as well as family members, friends and professionals who would like to see how AA works.
How much does it cost and do I need to book?
Nothing, and no. AA meetings are free and there is no booking or referral needed; just arrive at St Thomas of Canterbury Church for the 8pm start.
Can I get proof of attendance for court or probation?
Yes. The group runs a chit system, so a slip confirming your attendance can be signed for court, probation or treatment purposes. The venue is also wheelchair accessible.
