Every Monday at 6pm, Overeaters Anonymous meets at Project 6 on Cumberland Street in central Sheffield. This is the South Yorkshire and North East Derbyshire Monday Group, drawing members from across the region who share a desire to stop eating compulsively. The format centres on OA literature, personal shares and time for fellowship afterwards, so you'll hear how others use the Twelve Steps in everyday life. Newcomers are made especially welcome here, and the group's mix of readings and discussion tends to suit those attending their first meeting as much as longer-standing members. Sessions run in English. As an open meeting, it's a straightforward place to turn up, listen and find out whether OA fits what you're looking for.
Can I come along if I'm not sure OA is right for me?
Yes. This is an open meeting, so anyone is welcome, including family, friends and professionals as well as anyone wondering whether Overeaters Anonymous might help. Newcomers are particularly welcome, and you can simply listen if you prefer.
Do I need to book or pay anything?
No. There's no booking and no charge to attend. OA meetings are self-supporting through members' own voluntary contributions, so a basket may be passed round, but you're never expected to give and nothing is required to take part.
What actually happens during the meeting?
The group focuses on OA literature, personal shares and fellowship. You'll hear members read from the programme and talk about their own experience, with time to chat afterwards. Meetings run in English and last around an hour.
