Design For Living, one of the Newbury area's Alcoholics Anonymous groups, meets on Friday evenings at 7pm at Portal Hall on Church Lane in Burghclere, a village a few miles south of Newbury. The meeting lasts an hour and a quarter and is closed, which means it is reserved for people who have, or suspect they have, a desire to stop drinking; if that describes you, you are welcome whether it is your first meeting or your thousandth. The hall has wheelchair access, and the group operates a chit system for anyone needing signed evidence of attendance for court, probation or a treatment programme. Attendance is free with no booking, and the group can be emailed at [email protected].
What does closed mean here?
Closed meetings are for people with a desire to stop drinking, including anyone still unsure about their relationship with alcohol. Supporters and professionals are welcome at open AA meetings instead.
Can the group sign court or probation paperwork?
Yes. A chit system is available, so a member can sign attendance slips for court, probation or treatment evidence.
Is the venue accessible and how do I get in touch?
Portal Hall in Burghclere has wheelchair access, and you can email the group at [email protected] with any questions. There is no cost to attend.
