An Al-Anon Family Groups meeting is held every Monday at 7.30pm in Mayfield, Cork City, at St. Joseph's Community Centre, Old Youghall Road. Al-Anon is built around the experience of living with, or having lived with, someone else's drinking, and its members are partners, parents, grown-up children, other relatives and close friends rather than drinkers themselves. As an open meeting, there is no restriction on who can sit in, so first-timers and people simply exploring the programme are just as welcome as long-standing members. Sessions typically run for around an hour and a quarter. It costs nothing to attend and there is no sign-up process, so turning up on the Monday is all that is needed.

Who is Al-Anon actually for?

Al-Anon exists for people touched by someone else's drinking, whatever the relationship, whether a partner, parent, adult child or friend. The drinker themselves is not the member. This meeting is open, so newcomers and long-standing members attend the same session.

Does the person who drinks need to come with me?

No. You are welcome whether or not the person whose drinking concerns you ever attends themselves. Plenty of members come by themselves, and the meeting works the same way either way.

Is there a cost, or do I need to book a place?

There is no charge and no need to book. Just come along on Monday for the 7.30pm start; you can simply take a seat when you arrive. The meeting lasts around an hour and a quarter.
