Getting there
About this meeting
Al-Anon Family Groups meets in Dorking, Surrey on Thursdays at 8pm, at Friends (Quaker) Meeting House, Butter Hill (Off South Street). Membership is open to anyone touched by someone else's drinking, not the person drinking, and includes husbands, wives, partners, parents, adult children and friends. This particular meeting is open, so newcomers, occasional visitors and regulars are all welcome in the same room. It generally runs for around an hour and a half. No booking or payment is required; newcomers usually find it easiest to arrive a little before the 8pm start.
Common questions
Who is Al-Anon actually for?
It is for family members and friends affected by another person's drinking, rather than for the drinker. That covers partners, parents, grown-up children and close friends. Because this is an open meeting, anyone with a connection to the situation can come along, including on a first visit.
Does the person who drinks need to come with me?
No. The meeting is for you, in your own right, and many people attend entirely on their own. The person whose drinking has affected you never needs to come along, and does not even need to know you are going.
Do I need to book in advance, and does it cost anything?
Al-Anon meetings are always free to attend, and there is no booking system, so turning up on Thursday at 8pm is all that is needed. The meeting lasts around an hour and a half.
