Coventry Speaker takes place on Saturday nights at 8pm at the Friends Meeting House on Hill Street, near the city centre. Speaker meetings are built around one member telling their story at length, what drinking was like, what happened, and what life is like now, which many people find one of the most powerful formats in AA. This is a closed meeting, an AA term meaning it is for people who have a desire to stop drinking rather than for observers or supporters. It runs for an hour and a quarter, is free, and needs no booking; newcomers can simply walk in. Wheelchair access has not been confirmed at this venue.
What happens at a speaker meeting?
One member shares their story in depth, covering their drinking, how they found AA and their recovery since. There is often time for others to share afterwards.
Can I attend if I'm just curious or supporting someone?
This is a closed meeting, so it is for people who have a desire to stop drinking. Friends, family and professionals are welcome at Coventry's open meetings instead.
Is it free, and how long is it?
Yes, completely free with no booking needed. It lasts an hour and a quarter, from 8pm to around 9.15pm on Saturdays.
