Speaker Meeting on the 1st Thursday of every month, every other Thursday is a literature meeting.
The Church Street NA Group meets every Thursday evening at St Mark's Parish Church on Church Street in Newtownards. Starting at 18:30 and running for about an hour, it gives local people a steady, regular place to work at staying clean. The format changes across the month: the first Thursday is a speaker meeting, where a member shares their experience at length, and the other Thursdays are literature meetings, where the group reads and discusses Narcotics Anonymous texts together. Both formats suit people at any stage of recovery, whether you have years behind you or are coming along for the very first time. This is a members' meeting for those who share a desire to stop using drugs. You don't need to phone ahead or sign up.
Who can attend this meeting?
This is a closed NA meeting, which means it is for people who have a desire to stop using drugs. If that is you, you are welcome regardless of what you have used or how long you have been trying to stop. Closed meetings keep the room for members so people can speak freely; open meetings, by contrast, also welcome family and friends.
Do I need to book or pay?
No. There is no charge to attend and no booking is needed — just turn up before 18:30 on a Thursday. NA is self-supporting through members' own contributions, so a basket is passed for those who wish to give, but nobody is expected to and it makes no difference to your welcome.
What is the difference between the speaker and literature meetings?
On the first Thursday of the month, a member shares their story in a speaker meeting. On the other Thursdays, the group reads from NA literature and talks it over together. Both are open to newcomers, so come along on whichever week fits.

Walking into a room for the first time is the hardest step. Foundations, our plain-language introduction to recovery, was written for exactly this moment — what to expect, what the Steps mean, and how to begin.
