Canvey Island

Canvey Island's Tuesday night Alcoholics Anonymous meeting is held at 8pm at St Nicholas Church, 208 Long Road, and runs for an hour and a half. Having a meeting on the island itself spares people the trip to the mainland, and the group is used to welcoming newcomers who have never set foot in an AA room before. It is an open meeting, so attendance is not limited to those with a desire to stop drinking; family members, friends and professionals may also come and listen. Nobody has to speak, and no surname is ever asked for. The church is wheelchair accessible. There is no charge and no booking; you can simply turn up on the night.
