Open speaker meeting.
Newcomers Speaker is an open speaker meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous, held on Mondays at 8pm at the University Catholic Chaplaincy, 103 Queens Road, Clifton. Speaker meetings are often recommended as a first taste of AA: one or more members tell their story, what drinking was like, what happened and what life is like now, and you can simply sit and listen without any pressure to say a word. Because it is open, anyone may attend, including family members, friends and professionals as well as anyone with a desire to stop drinking. The meeting lasts an hour. The same Clifton venue hosts related meetings on Wednesdays and Saturdays, so there is a small cluster of support here.
Will I have to speak or introduce myself?
No. This is a speaker meeting, so members share their stories from the front and everyone else listens. Nobody is required to say anything.
Can I bring someone with me?
Yes. The meeting is open, so family, friends and professionals are welcome to come along.
How much does it cost?
Nothing. AA meetings are free, with no booking. A voluntary collection may be passed round, and newcomers are not expected to contribute.
