Friday nights at 8pm bring a speaker meeting to the Carmel Room at the National Shrine of St Jude, 34 Tanners Street, Faversham. A speaker meeting centres on one member telling their story at length — what it was like, what happened and what it is like now — before the meeting opens out to the room. It runs for ninety minutes and is open to everyone, whether you have a desire to stop drinking or are supporting someone who does. Attendance chits can be signed for court, probation or treatment evidence. The room is listed as wheelchair accessible, and the meeting is free with no need to book.
What happens at a speaker meeting?
One member tells their story — their drinking, how they stopped, and their life now — and the meeting then opens for others to share.
Do I have to be an alcoholic to attend?
No. It is an open meeting, so anyone may come, including supporters and professionals.
Is it free, and can I get a chit signed?
Yes to both. There is no charge or booking, and attendance slips can be signed for court, probation or treatment purposes.
