The Sunday edition of Chapter & Verse meets at 7pm at All Saints Church, Pembroke Road, Clifton, giving Bristol a settled, literature-based Alcoholics Anonymous meeting to close the weekend. It lasts an hour and is a closed meeting, meaning it is held for people who have, or wonder whether they have, a desire to stop drinking. Friends, family and professionals cannot sit in on closed meetings, but nobody with a genuine concern about their own drinking will be turned away, and Sunday evenings are a time when many people are glad of somewhere steady to be. The church has wheelchair access. A sister meeting runs at the same venue on Thursdays at 8pm.
Can I attend if I have never been to AA before?
Yes. Closed meetings welcome newcomers; the only requirement is a desire to stop drinking. You can introduce yourself as new, or just sit and listen.
Is there parking or step-free access?
The venue is listed as wheelchair accessible. Parking arrangements have not been confirmed, so allow a little extra time if you are driving to Clifton.
What does it cost?
Nothing. AA has no fees or dues. A basket is passed for voluntary contributions towards the room, and it is fine to let it pass by.
