Big Book provided.
Oakham's Monday meeting, BYO Big Book, studies Alcoholics Anonymous's core text at St Josephs RC Church on Station Road, starting at 6.30pm and running for an hour and a quarter. Despite the bring-your-own name, copies of the Big Book are provided, so you do not need to own one to take part; many people simply follow along and listen. It is a closed meeting, meaning attendance is for people who have, or think they may have, a desire to stop drinking, however recently they came to that thought. There is no cost and no booking or referral. If Monday evenings do not suit, the same church hosts an open As Bill Sees It meeting on Saturdays.
Do I need to bring my own Big Book?
No. Although the meeting is called BYO Big Book, copies are provided, and newcomers are welcome to just listen.
Who can attend a closed meeting?
Anyone with a desire to stop drinking, including people still unsure. Family and friends are better suited to the open Saturday meeting at the same church.
Is there a cost, and is the venue accessible?
The meeting is free with no booking. Wheelchair access has not been confirmed for this meeting, so check with AA's helpline if access is a concern.
