Every Monday evening at 7pm, this Overeaters Anonymous group meets at St Silas Church in Islington, on the corner of Penton Street and Risinghill Street (N1 9UL). Meetings follow a Steps and/or Traditions study format, with a speaker sharing their own experience of recovery from compulsive eating. As an open meeting, it welcomes anyone with a desire to stop eating compulsively, alongside family members, friends and professionals who want to understand how the fellowship works. OA uses the same twelve-step approach found in other fellowships, applied to food and eating. If you're coming for the first time, arriving a few minutes early gives you a chance to settle in. There's no need to book or contact anyone in advance.
Who can attend this meeting?
This is an open Overeaters Anonymous meeting, so anyone is welcome, whether you have a desire to stop eating compulsively or you're a family member, friend or professional wanting to learn more about how OA works.
Do I need to book or pay anything?
No. OA meetings are free to attend and there's no booking required. Just turn up on the Monday evening. A voluntary collection may be passed round to cover costs like room hire, but you're never obliged to give.
What happens at a Steps and Traditions study with a speaker?
Part of the meeting looks at OA's twelve steps or twelve traditions, and a speaker shares their own experience of recovery. It's a chance to listen, and you can share if you'd like to, but there's no pressure to say anything.
