Alongside its open Wednesday session, the Pearse Road group also holds a closed Alcoholics Anonymous meeting on Friday evenings at 8.30pm, again at the Day Centre on Oliver Plunkett Road in Letterkenny, Co. Donegal. This Friday meeting follows a Steps format, working through the Twelve Steps in turn rather than general open sharing, and is intended specifically for people who have a desire to stop drinking. Unlike the Wednesday meeting run by the same group, family members and professional visitors are not included in this closed session. There is no charge for attending and no requirement to book beforehand. Anyone already familiar with AA, or ready to work through the steps in more depth, is welcome to arrive a little before 8.30pm on Friday for this meeting.
Is the Friday meeting the same as the open Wednesday one?
No, the Friday session is closed and follows a Steps format, whereas the Wednesday meeting run by the same group is open to family and visitors.
What does a Steps format meeting involve?
Members work through AA's Twelve Steps in sequence over time, rather than following an open-sharing structure.
Is there a fee to attend?
No, it is free and there is no need to book, in line with all AA meetings.
