Maldon As Bill Sees It takes its theme from the AA book of the same name, a collection of writings by co-founder Bill W. that offers a different jumping-off point for discussion each week. The group meets on Thursdays at 7pm in the first-floor room of the Friends Meeting House on Butt Lane, Maldon, and runs for an hour and a half. It is a closed meeting, kept for people who have a desire to stop drinking; newcomers qualify from their first visit, but it is not the one for bringing supporters along. The venue is listed as wheelchair accessible. Like every AA meeting, it is free, unbooked and anonymous; you can simply climb the stairs, or ask about access, and take a seat.
What does closed mean here?
A closed AA meeting is for people who have, or suspect they have, a desire to stop drinking. Family and friends wanting to attend with you would be better served by one of Maldon's open meetings, such as the Monday or Tuesday groups at the same venue.
Do I need to register or pay?
No. There is no charge, no booking and no membership process. Turn up at the Friends Meeting House on Butt Lane just before 7pm on Thursday.
The meeting is on the first floor. Is it accessible?
The meeting is listed as wheelchair accessible despite being held in the first-floor room. If lift access is critical for you, checking with the local AA helpline before travelling is a sensible precaution.
